Rick W. Redmond

Biography

Rick Redmond is a member of the Litigation and Trial Practice. His practice focuses primarily on complex commercial litigation.

Before joining McNaul Ebel in 2021, Rick practiced in Washington D.C. with the law firm Cleary Gottlieb, where he defended companies facing high stakes consumer class action lawsuits and government investigations, and as a volunteer attorney with the Office of the Federal Public Defender for the Eastern District of Virginia, where he represented indigent clients facing federal criminal charges. Rick has appeared in federal court numerous times, and has secured victories for his clients at the trial and appellate level.

Rick attended law school at the University of Chicago. Before law school, Rick was a Sergeant and Intelligence Analyst in the U.S. Army. When not deployed to Afghanistan, Rick was stationed at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, where he fell in love with everything Washington State has to offer.

Representative Cases & Matters

  • Represented an auto parts manufacturer in federal class action litigation related to alleged emissions fraud. Won dismissal of a federal RICO claim on a novel theory of RICO standing.
  • Successfully argued before the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals for reversal of a conviction that violated a client’s First Amendment rights.
  • Secured a jury verdict of Not Guilty for a client facing criminal charges for unlawful possession of a firearm.
  • Won motion to enforce “click wrap” arbitration agreement in litigation brought by a prospective class of consumers who had purchased a product on client’s website.
  • Prevailed on summary judgment on behalf of international corporation against breach of fiduciary duty and denial of benefits claims under ERISA.
  • Guided large investment bank through Department of Labor investigation, resulting in a no-action letter.
